English Language Training

This course is a formal English course using appropriate course books for different levels of English. After determining the target language level, an appropriate language book is decided upon and used for study and for practice.

Even though a book is used, the focus of the course is speech-centred training, using the total immersion method, whereby the student must communicate in the target language from day one. Grammar is taught as a communication exercise and vocabulary is expanded using a variety of techniques, especially Quizlet, thus keeping the interest of participants active and alive.

English training may be undertaken on a 1-on-1 basis or in a group situation. This would depend on the intensity of the learning required and on the learning style of the participant. Groups should not comprise more than six persons for maximum effectiveness and adequate talk time for all the students. Furthermore, groups should be formed according to the level of all the participants to ensure maximum learning.

All English training is done with a view to maximise student talk time and to minimise teacher talk time. One does not learn a language by listening only but by applying knowledge gained in a meaningful way. The 3 P’s are key elements of learning effectively viz. Presentation, Practice and Performance. So the trainer presents new vocabulary or concepts in a relevant context, practices this with the students and then gives the student the opportunity to perform their newly gained knowledge, to ensure a high rate of retention.

In addition to the highest standards of teaching techniques and relevant books that are used, other resources like articles, radio interviews, sound clips, videos, Ted/TedEd talks, etc are used for achieving the goals of the group.
